Farmacy

#19

FinAllie Ferments supports the Vermont Farmers Food Center’s (VFFC) Farmacy Project. “What is that?” Well, it is a remarkable program that provides produce prescriptions for individuals as who have “food as medicine” for chronic diet-related health conditions. In addition, the VFFC provides fresh produce to these same clients, grown exclusively by new and emerging Rutland farmers.

Since 2015, the VFFC’s Farmacy Project has reached over 1,747 unique individuals in Rutland County!

How does it work? The Farmacy Project:

  • Partners with local healthcare providers who provide a food prescription to at-risk clients with health issues impacted by diet;
  • Allows for enrolled Farmacy members to retrieve 10-12 pounds of fresh produce for 15 weeks at multiple distribution sites across the county;
  • Provides nutrition education and cooking classes to its clients through community partner support;
  • Distributes and supports produce from Rutland’s new and emerging farms and farmers.
